Trails in the Sky the 3rd Remake: What Falcom Has Actually Said
Separating confirmed from unconfirmed: the official position is undecided, the president says not remaking it is unthinkable, and staff already asked to start.
The official position is undecided. The president personally says not doing it would be unthinkable.
Those two statements are not contradictory, but they have to be read separately.
What is settled: Falcom has not announced a Trails in the Sky the 3rd remake. No project announcement, no date, no platforms.
What the president has said: he thinks not remaking it would be unthinkable. Staff started asking him whether they could begin around the time 2nd Chapter was wrapping up.
So the open question is not whether, but when, and in what form.

What the September 2026 interview said
This is the most recent and the most direct.
Official position: undecided.
Kondo’s personal view: not remaking it would be unthinkable.
His point, in substance: “around the time we were finishing work on 2nd, the staff started asking me, ‘Can we start working on the 3rd yet?’ That is how motivated everyone is internally, so I definitely want to do it at some point.”
The same interview covers other ground. He says Falcom “cannot afford to drag things out any longer” on the Calvard arc and wants to give players a resolution soon. The plan to move into the series’ “final stage” after Calvard is unchanged, but nothing about how that will work is decided yet.
What the November 2025 interview said
That one went into more detail, mainly on the order of the 3rd versus Trails from Zero.
“We are not sure whether to do the 3rd or from Zero next. Opinions are divided among us. Some members are saying it would be better to do from Zero before the 3rd.”
Kondo himself leans toward the 3rd first, on continuity grounds. He says Renne’s story matters, so does Kevin’s, Crossbell appears by name for the first time in the 3rd, and Erebonia’s Blood and Iron Chancellor Osborne also debuts there.
He also said: “I think we have to do a remake of the 3rd at some point, but there are many possible ideas for what form it could take.”
On Cold Steel remakes, his phrasing was that it would be “a rather difficult feat” right now. Both games are simply too large, and merging them would be tricky.
Do not treat these as plans
| Claim | Actual status |
|---|---|
| A the 3rd remake is greenlit | No. The president said he wants to do it at some point |
| Release date, platforms, title, format | All unknown |
| Crossbell will come first and the 3rd gets skipped | That is one internal opinion, not a decision |
| The 3rd remake depends on 2nd Chapter’s sales | This conditional was not in the original interviews read for this page, so it is not stated as fact |
Why the 3rd is not an automatic next step
Because 2nd Chapter already closes its story.
IGN’s review says the game strikes “a wonderful momentum for concluding Estelle’s and Joshua’s character arcs cleanly and concisely,” and contrasts that with later Trails entries that let protagonist arcs run long.
The original the 3rd is also structurally different. It is not a two-part continuation like FC and SC. It is a dungeon-crawler with “Star Door” side stories.
Kondo’s own line about the many possible forms says the same thing: the 3rd carries cross-series threads, and what shape a remake takes is a separate decision.
If you want the 3rd’s story now
You only played the remakes and want to continue: the original Trails in the Sky the 3rd is playable (2007, PC and PSP), but it is an old engine with old combat, nothing like the remakes.
You would rather wait for a remake: there is no published timetable, so there is no date to wait for. Playing the original, or catching up on the two Crossbell games (Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure), gets you further.
You have played the whole series: watch Falcom’s official channels and the president’s periodic interviews. This site does not predict.
How to confirm an announcement
New Falcom titles are announced through the official Japanese site; series news through each game’s official site; interviews through Japanese game media. On the English side, GungHo Online Entertainment America relays through its site and social accounts.
A formal announcement containing the word Remake is the signal that a project exists.
One caveat
Every “unconfirmed” judgment on this page is valid as of September 17, 2026. If Falcom announces anything, this page needs another pass.
This site does not speculate on which year it would arrive or whether the 3rd would be skipped.
